My Favorite Holiday

My favorite holiday is Dragon Boat Festival. It’s on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar.

We celebrate it to remember a Chinese poet, Chi-yuen who loved his country very much.

The king listened to the wrong people’s advice. This made his country weaker and weaker, chi-yuen neither wanted to see his country perish nor wanted to surrender as the others had done.

So, he jumped into the river to take his own life. People were worried that the fish might eat chi-yuen’s body.

They rowed boats and threw rice dumplings in the sea that the fish would eat the rice dumplings instead.

Now people row dragon boats in races to celebrate this holiday, and it has become an international activity. Many other countries join the races and perform wonderfully.

On this day, all Chinese eat rice dumplings and balance eggs at noon.

I also send my relatives fragant, pouches made by myself.

The pouches are in the shapes of rice dumplings and filled with incense which can help keep summer diseases away.

I like this day because it is fun to see dragon boat races.

There is so much fun on this holiday and I really enjoy it.
